Cascadian Airforce

The Cascadian Air force is also well equipped with legacy Air Craft. While working deals with Boeing to accrue new F-22s they are still adequately set to defend their airspace and to even project force if need be.

The old Oregon Guard provided them With 2 Fighter Wings of F-15 C/D air supremacy Fighters.

Montana's old Guard contributed an Air Lift Wing of C-130 Hercules

Idaho Air National Guard provides an A-10 fighter wing along with a Jatac squadron of Forward air controllers.

And Finally Washington's Air Guard provide an Air re-fueler wing along with a logistics and Theater command wing.

The Aircraft provided by the Active air force consisted of 2 C-17 Wings, 1 F-15 Strike Eagle wing, and one more Refuler Wing with Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker

So that leave Cascadia air force with.

Cascadian Ministry of Air Defense.
First Theater command wing.
1 F-15 Strike Eagle Fighter Wing
2 F-15 C/D fighter Wings
1 A-10 Fighter Wing

I JATC Forward Air Controller wing.
1 F-22 Squadron (being made into a wing once the rest of the planes arrive and pilots complete there training)

First Logistics command wing.

1 C-130 Air lift Wing
2 Refuler Kc-135 Stratonker. (one Active/ one Reserve)
2 C-17 Wings (One Active/ One Reserve)

A lot smaller then some of the other commands but That is what I have at the moment. I am thinking I will also look at what Japan and the smaller Territories the US controls in the Pacific to come see if any thing else can be scrounged. I am hanging with the idea that Hawaii will all but become part of the New Cal Rep. But Maybe as a protectorate or kind of a commonwealth/Federation thing. With all the outer Territories also forming being drawn in. They don't feel like being absorbed by china or Japan ether, so having a alliance Guaranty with ether Australia, California and Cascadia might be a good idea.

Cascadian Navy

Cascadia was again spoiled for navel assets after independence. The biggest problem was trying to figure out what was economically feasible to keep, to sale, and what to mothball for later use.

By the time of the events described here, There would be 2 Gerald ford and one Nimitz class super Aircraft Carrier located in the Puget sound. And while it would be cool to have 3 carrier battle groups along with all of there aircraft, its not viable. In fact one would most likely be to expensive to keep and maintain. And there are also currently 3 more decommissioned carriers just hanging out waiting to be scraped.
And lets not forget that the operation cost of a modern carrier, aircraft, Maintenance, manning, port facilities, air and support ship assets would most likely coast some thing like 6-10 billion its not a hard call to make.

So the mothballed older ships will all be scraped. One of the Fords will be sold to Australia along with it's air wing. And the Last Nimitz will be mothballed, with the last Ford. To pricey to keep active but most of its aircraft are still available if needed.
The last Ford was able to convince its strike group to return to port with it though so the fleet Order is.

Also there are 10 old Ohio class boomers in the sound. I am going to say 2 never came back to the sound. And 2 where already converted over to use convtinal tomahawk missiles so those are keepers.
Oh and One will become a civilian science and exploration sub

Cascadian Navy
Department of the Navy

Surface fleet

1 Ticonderoga class cruiser

1 Zumwalt class destroyer(I want one so I will have one)

2 Aeleigh-Burke destroyers (3 in mothball, they where part of the fleet out of Japan)

2 Independence-class Littoral combat ship (taking liberties because of them currently being stationed in San Diego)

2 Freedom-class littoral combat ship (also Taking liberties)

2 Supply Ships "reserve noncombatant" (see USNS Rainier (T-AOE-7)

2 de-miner ships

(Cruses ships and ferry's are used as need for transportation of troops and equipment)

Sub Fleet

3 Seawolf Class Attack subs

2 Ohio SSGN (guided missile subs)

1 Ohio class Drone carrier(converted)

2 OHIO class Amphibious warfare Subs (looking at the "Makin Island raid" and the old Greyback sub for this ideas. Take all the missiles out and slash the crew complement. You now have a sub that can transport well over 120 men. Maine problem is getting them to the shore after they leave the sub. thinking rubber boats and the like.)

The rest are mothballed minus the two that left.

Coast Guard.
Large surface ships (many smaller boats, tugs and an Air Rescue/patrol squadron)
1 Keeper-class cutter
3 Marine Protector-class coastal patrol boat
2 Reliance-class cutter
1 Juniper class Cutter

Navel land warfare branch

Since large amphibious operations are not an option for Cascadia, so this force will not be designed to storm beach heads and be a 2nd army for the government.

Cascadia Marine Raiders (Uses navel rank, Set up for quick coastal raids, insertions and surveillance)
One CMR Brigade.
Brigade HQ

Marine Raider Support Battalion
(supply, training, Engineer Co..Etc)

2 Marine Raider Battalions(1st Bat "Vikings", 2nd Bat "The Sea People")
Command Company
2X Raider Companies
1X RAW (Raider Weapons) Company

Navel Arms Men Bridge (security on ships, and shore installations)
2 battalions (Detachments regular will break off for shore and ship duty, Battalion is just for logistics)

Navy Divers Detachment (works closely with the Coast guard on rescue missions)
Diver Command
Diver training Detachment
3 Diver Detachments (each form four, 6 man dive teams)

1st Navy Infantry Battalion "Sounders" (Stationed in Puget Sound, they are Trained and equipped like a regular infantry battalion. They fall under Navy command because of the number of navy installations and inlets in the area. They also do ship to shore training and help with security of port facilities.)

Navy Air Wing (all currently Fall under the Air force with the loss of mothballing of the Carrier. With only the Helicopters Wings staying totally under navy command)
1 F18 growler fighter wing
2 F18 Hornet Fighter wing
1 P-3 P-3 Orion Squadron
1 c-40 Clipper Squadron
1 MH-60 Sea Hawk Wing

Now to see if a functionally HELO Carrier is an option.

Cascadia As it stands today

Cascadia

Population:
12,504,307
(Population as of 2015 the combined populations of Idaho, Washington and Oregon is 12,854,258.But after the troubles this is what remains. Many people tried to go back to home states, or died as a result of conflict, or a break down in services)

GDP:
702.817 billion
(based off of prewar numbers)

Government:
The official type of government in Cascadia is parliamentary republic.

In Cascadia, there is an elected parliament, called the Parliament of Cascadia, consisting of two houses, the National Council of Cascadia (upper house), and the National Assembly of Cascadia (lower house). The leading coalition of political parties in the National Assembly selects the Prime Minister of Cascadia, and forms the ministers of the government. The elected President of Cascadia appoints secretaries of the government, one for each ministry. National Assembly members hold their seats by the members of their electoral districts for two years, or until Parliament is dissolved, while National Council members serve for four years. The President is elected every four years, along with every National Council election.

Most of Cascadia's government offices are located in the city of Olympia. The offices consist of many buildings, including a manor for the prime minister, a Presidential house, the parliament building, buildings for each of the ministries, the archive building, CIA (Cascadian Investigation Agency) headquarters, CEPA (Cascadian Environmental Protection Agency) headquarters, and many more buildings for various government agencies.
There is also an ministry dedicated to First nations peoples affairs. With the Break from the old Union new treaties had to be signed granting many of the same rights and privileges many of the people still enjoyed along with a permanent seat in both houses of parliament
(this has lead many to complain that a group of people that make up barely 2 percent of the population to have a disproportionate voice in national affairs)

The official language of Cascadia: is English, but allowances will and are made to none native English speakers.

Religion: No official state religion "Separation of church and state" is still practiced.

Social services:
Universal State healthcare is provided by the state, but a person can opt out of the tax by paying for privet personal health care.

State provided schooling is provided k-12 with optional vocational high schools also being available.
Privet schools are also available.

Universal housing is also provided.
This might be a one room apartment with a full bath and small kitchen but its a roof over your head, with some privacy.
(Now if the person wants to stay in the housing is up to them. And if they want to destroy the place, they might be up on criminal charges or spend some time in a mental ward.)

Employment is considered a right and privilege of all Cascadian's.
(That's why shady guys still pumping your gas and whipping your windows at Gas stations)

Money:
Cascadia uses the Cascadian Dollar (C-note), Which is currently set at .80 cents to the old US dollar.

Largest Cities. Seattle, Portland, Spokane.

Cascadian Military:

Despite the views of the Cascadia movements founders, when you start a nation in a time of war you need an army. The military is still with us today.

Early History
The first members of the Cascadian Military where comprised of the old Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana guard. And remnants of the active and reserve elements of the US Army, Navy and Air force.
With the succession crises and other deployments many units of the old active force where scattered around the world doing real world missions. Leaving mostly cadre or logistic units behind. The formation of Cascadia and fall of the US left many of the old active solders lost for what action to take.
With some thing like one third of all solders, sailors, Airmen wanting to head back to their home of recorded.

Their actions ranged from what some would consider noble.

The commander of Maelstrom Air Force Base ordered all the missiles to be disassembled and then ordered the silos filed with concreate. And then tried to make sure all his airmen made it as close to there home destination as possible. While Brash this did stop any accidents of madmen getting ahold of the weapons in the short term.

To some what ennoble. Examples. Almost two flights of f18 Groowler pilots and a few trans and refuel planes to the confusion as an opportunity to take off with there jets back home. After that all aircraft where under grounded until the pilots could be sorted out.

Or examples of Members for the old Idaho 116th taking their Bradly and M1 tanks to Deseret.

Getting Organized:
Enough Troops, logistics, and equipment remained to make more then a decent training cadre.

Cascadia Military Department
Over all command of all Cascadian Armed forces.

Bonner light foot militias

All the counties of the Bonner Republic have a Battalion. Battalion being more an organizational title then any thing else with rotational active membership of the Light foot peaking at 1000 members .

Most Battalions never exceed 25 to 40 members. With only the Bitter ender Battalion numbering almost 200 diehards who never come down from the hills.

They usually roam in Combat Teams
These Combat Teams are composed of “Minutemen” who are physically capable of carrying a full combat load and executing all necessary combat missions.
Most are not full time members and spend of there time leading normal life's and jobs.
(usually encountered on patrols, guard of encampments, tax collecting(robing stores, or farms), in ambush or doing a major attack.)

S.W.O.R.D. (Select Weapons, Ordinance and Reconnaissance Detachment) Teams consist of 6 men who receive extra training in one of three areas: Designated Marksman, Land Navigation or Communications.
(Hit Teams, IED makers, Propaganda teams)

Support teams
Support teams are composed of militia members who are unable or unwilling to serve on a combat team. Each support team is organized as a Medical Team or a Supply Team, or a member can hold an assignment as a chaplain in religious support capacity

More Cascadia

So the history as it stands in the possible near future event is a very unpopular president is elected in the 2016 elections.
I will let the reader decided who that is.
But this increases the Separations between the now fragmenting DNC and GOP. Whos members start seeking 3rd party and even regional options instead of the old Red and Blue.
One such movement that was starting to regain traction in the American Pacific North West the Free Cascadian movement.

the movement was founded on environmental and left of center social ideals, it failed to grab the blue coaler and rural populations attentions until they also started to play up regionalism, and job protection...And finally toned down their anti-gun stances.
With in a few years it was not uncommon to start to see more displays of support for this "Cascadia" idea.
From collage campuses

To sporting events.
Across the nation people where bulking down with and looking for a "New Way". Spontaneous riots and political protests where becoming an almost dally occurrence combined which lead to growing repression from the federal government.
Add to this a laundry list of government scandals, terrioust attacks state side and the still on going wars in the middle east people where more then ready for a change by the time the 2020 election rolled around. But to every ones surprise congress declared all other cadets invalid and the very much despised incumbent won the election!
The collective shock of the results was compounded by the fact that on the day of their inauguration an Atomic weapon went off in the Capital mall, decimating the majority of the governments line of succession In one fail blow.

The nation understandable went into and up rawer! Who did this? Why? What should we do and who is in charge now?

Texas and California did not hesitate. With in hours of the attack they declared Martial law and emergency governments until order could be restored....It wasn't.

This lead to 3 years of fighting, starvation, migration and forced political deals to leave us at where the world is now.
The California Republic now controls Nevada, Amazon, while contesting a sizable chuck of New Mexico with The Free Mountain Republic of Colorado and The republic of Texas.

The Eastern Boarder foe Cal Rep is the Mormon State of Deseret, who made up for their lack of modern equipment with innovation and zeal. The Stalment eventually lead to a stalled conflict as the Californians became busy Suring up their conquests and home territories.

Back to Cascadia.

The movement had already taken hold and elected officials from the Cascadia party even held many locally post in both Washington and Oregon. This combined with a multitude of other similarities lead for the two former states to declared independence and to unit as a Single nation.
This was is known as the Evergreen Revolution by the new nation.

Whoo-hoo!

The honeymoon didn't last though. Idaho and Montana were deciding into Anarchy, With the remains of the Idaho government asking to join the new nation to help defend it from the Invasion in its south by Deseret.
This still on going conflict is known as the Snake river war, for it is along this river that the Nauvoo and other Deseret Legions where stopped.

The North of Idaho is not much better with most of Kootenai, Shoshone, Boundary, Benewah, and Bonner County declaring themselves the Christian Republic of Bonner. These territories are a constant thorn in the side of Cascadian officials with the Bonner light foot militias commenting many acts of violence on the new government and its people.
Patch from warn by a militia man of the Bonner Light foot

Montana was not doing much better with planes wars starting between different towns, ranchers and Native tribal groups.
It took all of the very limited political and military might of the new state to push down rout 90 up to Butte and then finish the drive on to Helena and Great Falls securing Maelstrom Air Force Base before declaring a halt to further Eastern advances.

And to cap it off, two years into the conflict the border between Cal Rep and Cascadia simmered and then light aflame as the Pacific State of Jefferson tried to be borne.

Comprised mostly of the Southern counties of Oregon and Northern most Counties of California, Jefferson was not a new idea. Many times the locals called for votes to leave their parent states to live a life better suited to there rural life styles free from the Freaks and confused peoples in Portland and the Bay area.
"The Core being the counties that voted for successes and the Greater being ones that have a large population that supports them"

The severity was reinforced when they closed down the freeways and imposed a toll tax of goods or money of any one driving though.
The endless cycle of collapse and anarchy had to end, so both nations arrested the ringleaders and have had to maintain special government powers in this region to try and maintain order.

But the boarder counties are still dangerous with bombings and assentation of government officials being almost on a monthly occurrence. There have even been a few military style ambushes on police and customs agents.

So now the setting. 10 years after the break up of the Old United States and the world is finally starting to come back to a since of normalcy.
And then the Russian Bear struck. Content to take full advantage of a now leaderless NATO. Russia secures its economic and political control of some of its more resistive neighbors. Along with a few Military Adventures on its western boarder to punish those who where too vocal in condemning Russian Actions.
They then turn their eyes back east, the economy is still not the best. But how to secure it. Aww yes the oil fields in Alaska! The US doesn't exist any more anyways so the old agreement no longer matters, and besides who is going to stop them? Canada? They are too busying trying to control their boarder with all the refuges. Should be a cake walk.

Russian Navel and Airborne forces Invade Alaska. Cel Rep, Cascadia and Canada scrabble forces to try to hold them back. And this is where we stand at the moment.

Cascadia a new Imagine-Nation takes shape.

CASCADIA!

Cascadia is a bioregion.

Cascadia is a noun and a place.

Cascadian, as an adjective or demonym, means someone or something associated with Cascadia (the bioregion). The name Cascadia comes from the word “cascades” meaning falling water or waterfalls. In the 1820s, David Douglas named the mountain range the Cascades. The name Cascadia in various circles came to mean the whole Pacific Northwest. This bioregion was also called Chinook Illahee in the trade language of Chinook Wawa that was spoken by indigenous and settler people alike. We honor both names as names of this beautiful place.

Cascadia as a geographical region includes most of Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and the majority of Idaho as well as northern California, parts of northwestern Wyoming, northwestern Montana, northeastern Nevada, the northwestern corner of Utah, southeastern Alaska, and the southwest corner of the Yukon Territory.

Why not the “Pacific Northwest?” Because the Pacific Northwest is a geographic description based on an Atlantic centered map. By both the place (Cascadia) and the people (Cascadians) remaining as only a geographic description of a distant corner of Atlantic empires, then we do ourselves a great disservice. As “Pacific Northwesterners” we remain a nameless object or second thought to the power centers of Washington DC and Ottawa. By remaining the “Pacific Northwest” the bioregion ends up being an object or description. We have a name, we are Cascadians and we have a home and it is called Cascadia. By giving ourselves and our home a name we empower ourselves and restore the sacredness of the land as a place of home and not a place for “resource extraction” [plunder] for empire or greed!

~ Alexander Baretich

I love the idea of Imagine-Nations and I have always wanted to make one. Inspired by the game "Shattered Union" nation of Pacifica
http://shatteredunion.wikia.com/wiki/Pacifica

And the Real world Cascadia movement. I decided to give it a another go.
I don't know if I will make it as big as the Shattered union version ether. But I think I will use the catalyst of a Nuke going off in DC, throwing the whole idea of government succession out of whack.
Texas and California Declare Emergence governments and pretty much succeed from the Union.
This is quickly fallowed by all other states decaling succession with regional alliances or force making new nations out of the old.
Also UN peace Keepers move into the D.C. Crater and Help/occupy (all depends on who you ask) Delaware and Maryland.
Also at this time the Russian Federation Declares that the Alaska Purchase was no longer valid and invades The former northern State.
(This will give me a reason to have my Cascadian troops fighting against Russians to try to keep the pipe-line open. And I will flush out the idea a little more later.)

Also I am thinking of only having it encompass modern day Oregon, Washington, Idaho up to the snake river and a bit of Montana. With the Boarders being the Californa Republic to the south (Nevada gets annexed by CalRep)
The Mormon State of Deseret(Utah) Also to the south.
Canada to the north. It still exists.
And Montana to the East Which is slowly being absorbed by the Planes Confederation and Deseret.

A new Kalmar Union?

There apparently are some ideas being suggest in an article from Göteborgs Posten, about Norway, Sweden and Denmark forming into a new big Scandinavian country. Don't really see it as happening any time soon but, still an interesting idea none the less.
I mean what from of government would there be? Where would that new capital be located? Sweden would be the default leader in population, GDP, Language, and those desistion maker of the 3 nations.
Would Iceland, Greenland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Finland want to get in on Scandinavian Union...Would they even be wanted in such a thing was to occurs? The mind boggles.

Army Soldiers Shooting the Powerful M3 Carl Gustav Recoilless Rifle

US Army Adds 84mm Recoilless Rifle to Platoon Arsenal "officially"

U.S. Army infantry platoons will soon have the 84mm Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle, a devastating anti-armor system, as a permanently assigned weapon.

Service officials completed a so-called conditional materiel release authorization late last year, making the M3 Multi-Role Anti-Armor Anti-Personnel Weapon System an organic weapon system within each infantry platoon, IHS Jane's 360 recently reported.

The service is also working on an effort to achieve Full Material Release of the M3 later this year.

Army light infantry units began using the M3 in Afghanistan in 2011, but only when commanders submitted operational needs statements for the weapon.

The breech-loading M3, made by Saab North America, can reach out and hit enemy targets up to 1,000 meters away. The M3 offers the units various types of ammunition, ranging from armor penetration and anti-personnel, to ammunition for built-up areas, as well as special features like smoke and illumination.

Special operations forces such as the 75th Ranger Regiment have been using the 84mm weapon system since the early 1990s. The M3 became an official, program of record in the conventional Army in 2014.

The M3 has enjoyed success with units such as the 25th Infantry, 10th Mountain and 82nd Airborne divisions in Afghanistan.

The launcher weighs approximately 22 pounds, with each round of ammunition weighing just under 10 pounds. By comparison, the AT4 weighs about 15 pounds and the Javelin's launcher with missile and reusable command launch unit weigh roughly 50 pounds.

The CMR allowed the system to be quickly fielded to operational units before the more exhaustive full materiel release process is completed, Jack Seymour, marketing director for Saab North America, told IHS Jane's.

The current plan is to equip all brigade combat teams with one M3 launcher per platoon.
